Responsibilities

Cedar Hills Hospital currently has an opening for a full time Financial Counselor to join our team of great people!

The Finanical Counselor serves as a liaison between patients and the Business Office to support patient insurance eligibility, helps patients understand fiduciary responsibility for their care, sets up payment plans for patients needing them, and receives payments for services rendered. This position is part of a team which collectively maintains responsibility for managing eligibility and benefits of patient insurance plan(s) and completes a full verification of benefits (primary and secondary plans).

The Financial Counselor uses empathy and thoughtful communication skills to meet with our adult psychiatric patient population to:

  • Confirm coordination of benefits and resolve any discrepancies with patient
  • Maintain regular communication with our CFO about insurance coverage for our patients.
  • Determine the applicable co-pays, deductibles and plan limitations such as calendar year or lifetime limits.
  • Meet with all inpatient and outpatient admissions within 48 hours of admission. In some cases, this may be done with appropriate family members.
  • Serve as a liaison between the facility departments/CBO and the patient to facilitate exchange of required information.
  • Make collection calls to past due accounts

This is not a remote position - you must be located in the Portland area.


Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Managed care, Medicare, and other government benefits, although we will train the right person. Ability to determine deductible and coinsurance. Preference for six (6) months of experience in finance, collecting patient financial liability, admission processes, collection procedures, and a working knowledge of managed care; interpretation of insurance coverage plans, co-payments, and deductible schedules; payment plans; and a working knowledge of computer and business software programs (Excel) preferred.

May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.

This is not a remote position - you must be located in the Portland area.
