Now Hiring: Join Central City Concern's Hooper Detox team as an On-Call EMT!

Location: Hooper Detox Stabilization Center (HDSC): 1535 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97227

SUMMARY: This position provides triage and assessment for patients desiring admission to the detoxification program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Triage and assess patients desiring admission to the detoxification program.
  2. Administer medications as allowed by scope of practice and as directed by the standing orders of on-site physician and clinicians.
  3. Observe and record pertinent information with regard to the care and condition of patients.
  4. Utilize current EMR and various programs to document patient data, outcomes and tracking.
  5. Make referrals to hospitals and other agencies.
  6. Assist the staff physician and clinician with orders as needed.
  7. Admit/triage new patients who self present or are referred from Sobering Program, outside agencies, hospitals, etc.
  8. Assist with ordering and administering/collecting labs, covid, UDS, Hep C, etc., as needed.
  9. Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security. Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners' and outside providers' patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access. This includes immediately reporting any breach of protected health information or personal identification information of any person receiving CCC services by CCC or an outside provider to the CCC Compliance Department, as well as to your supervisor or their designee.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of detoxification methods, intervention techniques, sobering issues and processes.
  2. Knowledge of chemical dependency and treatment methods.
  3. Application of knowledge in nutrition, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
  4. Ability to follow oral and written directions and to apply techniques for specific needs.
  5. Knowledge of community resources.
  6. Knowledge of de-escalation methods or ability to be trained in de-escalation methods.
  7. Physical ability to move and restrain patients in an emergency situation.
  8. Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.
  9. Ability to successfully interact with a wide variety of people including the patients, the manager and co-workers.
  10. Ability to work in an environment where people may be hostile or abusive.
  11. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  12. Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  13. Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
  14. Ability to learn and apply training instruction.
  15. Knowledge of medical assessment with intoxicated persons.
  16. Skills in supervision of employees, including training, motivation techniques, progressive discipline, problem solving, employee involvement and performance evaluation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED)

***In order to be granted formal consideration for the EMT position, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  1. Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Required: Oregon State certified EMT-B, EMT-I or EMT-P required.
  3. Required: One year experience working as an EMT in an urban environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. One year experience in Subacute, Sobering, or CHIERS Program is preferred.
