Job Summa

The DAS Technician will be responsible for a variety of field service functions. The DAS Technician II will install antennas, repeaters, head-end equipment and other DAS devices as well as complete sweep, PIM and fiber testing.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installing DAS wireless equipment using any combination of external and internal antennas, coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, CAT 5 cable and other appropriate components to NEC standard at customer job sites.
  • Commission and optimize a variety of DAS and signal booster equipment for public safety installations utilizing manufacturer's procedures and field equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters.
  • Conduct Pre & Post install RF signal readings per fire code requirements utilizing spectrum analyzer and/or two-way radios.
  • Perform cable sweep testing (VSWR, RL, DTF, PIM) utilizing test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot existing systems to identify failures or configuration issues and correct as possible.
  • Terminating wall and ceiling mounted components.
  • Completing Sweep, PIM and Fiber testing.
  • Completing job related documentation and record keeping.
  • Keeping Customer and Company informed of progress of installation.
  • Communicating and coordinating with Customer and Company related to specific safety, local code and Company installation requirements.
  • Mentoring and leading less experienced technicians.
  • Keeping informed on and wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
  • Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • Must possess proven problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • Must have proven skill level or the ability to learn to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must be able to work at heights, off ofa ladder, lift and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Must be able to travel within 50% to 75% in and outside the branch territory as needed.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.

Tools:

  • Screwdriver set or multibit, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, 110 punch tool, RJ45 Crimp tool, small screw driver set (aka tweaker), Diagonal side cutters, lineman's pliers, Security bit set, 18V cordless drill, 6 inch adjustable wrench, cable fishing sticks, paddle bit set, socket set (metric and SAE), digital multimeter, wire map tester, twist drill index, drill tap kit, tone generator and probe, cable loppers, metal file set, and gloves.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency
  • Must possess a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (G.R.O.L.) or be able to obtain one within two weeks of hire
  • 5 years' experience in the processes and requirements of integrating public safety and cell carrier and technologies into an in building coverage system
  • Proficient and experienced with the commissioning process of multiple manufacturers such as ADRF Technologies and Comba Telecom, CommScope, SOLiD Tech, and Corning
  • Possess or obtain certifications from above manufacturers and have the willingness to learn new systems
  • Proficient in the use of spectrum analyzers including Keysight/Agilent, Anritsu models, and/or PCTel
  • Experience with PIM testing preferred
  • Experience with common DAS Equipment including Fiber DAS, Repeaters, Coaxial Cable, CAT 5 Cable, Antennas, Splitters, Fiber Cable, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a professional manner at all job sites
  • Ability to think analytically and to solve complex problems
  • Ability to drive performance and execute against plan
  • Strong customer service, communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well on a team
  • Demonstrated ability to complete installations independently as projects require
