WCSO Test Standards: 
  • FrontLine National NTN test exam - Scores of at least 70% on the reading and written sections, and 65% on the video section are passing. 
  • Corrections – REACT exam with a scores of at least 70% on all three (3) sections of the test are passing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Must be at least 21 years of age by hire date.
  • Education: High school graduate or possess GED certificate of high school equivalency.
  • Criminal Record: No felony convictions; misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
  • Certifications: Must be able to attain certification by the Oregon DPSST after one (1) year with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
  • Citizenship: A Jail Recruit Deputy must obtain U.S. citizenship within 12 months of hire; A Patrol Recruit Deputy must obtain U.S. citizenship within 18 months of hire.

To be considered for a Recruit Deputy position (Jail AND Patrol), all applicants must successfully complete the following:
 
STEP 1: Complete Your Employment Application
 
STEP 2
: Complete applicable National Testing Network (NTN) test.; OR provide proof of a bachelor's degree to satisfy this requirement. 
 
STEP 3: 
Physical Ability Test (PAT): Click here to watch demonstration. Note: WCSO does not utilize the push-pull machine.
 
STEP 4: 
Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) – Candidates MUST complete the online PHQ in its entirety, through the link sent to you from Guardian Alliance Technologies.  
 
STEP 5:  Pre-Suitability Test – This test evaluates an applicant's characteristics and match for the certified law enforcement profession.

STEP 6: Full background investigation and interview.

STEP 7: Ride Along and Jail Job Shadow – Candidates are required to complete both a patrol ride along and jail job shadow. 

STEP 8:  Panel Interview
 
STEP 9: Commander Interview and Conditional Job Offer. (Conditional on passing step 10.)
  
STEP 10
: Post Offer Physical and Psychological Evaluation – The evaluations are completed by a third party; licensed medical doctor and a licensed psychologist.

This position is represented by Washington County Police Officers' Association (WCPOA) collective bargaining agreement.
 

Additional Pay & Benefits
  • Merit Increases – salary step increases granted upon satisfactory performance and completion of 26 qualified pay periods.
  • Bilingual Pay – $75 per pay period which is paid out every two weeks.
  • Incentive Pay – 2 to 8% for a combination of certification levels, training, college education and years of service.
  • Premium Pay for various special assignments (Field Training Officer, Tactical Negotiations Team – SWAT, Motorcycle Officer, Corrections Emergency Response Team,  and K-9.
  • Overtime and/or compensatory time allowances for overtime, callback and court appearance.
  • Uniform including initial tailoring, duty gear, and firearm.
  • Clothing allowance – $75 per month, if assigned to plain clothes duty full-time.
  • Footwear allowance – $150 per year.

  • One wedding ring tattoo on the ring finger is allowed.
  • Tattooed make-up giving the appearance of natural color and style is allowed.
  • No other visible tattoos are permitted on the head, face, or neck
    • Tattoos depicting racist, indecent, extremist, lawless, or offensive themes are prohibited. A tattoo is considered "offensive" if it is sexist, sexual, racist, vulgar, anti-social, violent, or discriminates against any person by virtue of words, symbols, or pictures in the tattoo or body art.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES TEST (PAT)/ORPAT SCORE: Candidates that have passed a PAT or ORPAT test within the last twelve (12) months may submit a PAT Score Certification in lieu of participating in the WCSO PAT. MUST include the test date, pass point of the test taken, applicant's final completion time, AND MUST be documented on the agency or military letterhead or an email from a representative of the agency or military branch that proctored the test. Candidates interested in submitting a PAT Score Certification MUST: EMAIL the PAT Score Certification to JoinWCSO@washingtoncountyor.gov and include "Transfer PAT Score Certification" in the subject line.
